The National Library for the Disabled was established under the Libraries Act,
as amended in 2012, and was elevated to an affiliated institution
under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2020.

As Korea’s representative national library dedicated to persons with disabilities,
we are committed to ensuring access to knowledge and providing convenient library services for the nation’s 2.63 million persons
with disabilities, as well as their families, guardians, and caregivers.

In today’s intelligent information society, access to knowledge and information is essential for persons with disabilities to enjoy equal opportunities in their daily life, education, social participation, and cultural activities.

Libraries serve as fundamental cultural institutions where everyone can freely and
equally access knowledge and information and enjoy reading culture.

To this end, the National Library for the Disabled establishes and implements national policies for library services for persons with disabilities.
We collect, produce, and organize various alternative format materials tailored to different types of disabilities and provide services that enable users to easily access and utilize these resources.
In addition, we expand knowledge and information services for persons with disabilities through exchanges and cooperation with libraries and related organizations both in Korea and abroad.

Going forward, all staff of the National Library for the Disabled
will continue to do our utmost to ensure access to knowledge and information
for persons with disabilities, promote their active participation in society,
and support them in leading happy and fulfilling lives
through the enjoyment of reading culture.

Thank you.
